A few words
About Us
Who we are
A Civil Liberation Movement, not an NGO
"Summoning the underlying yearning for freedom amongst the Swazi people."
The Free Swaziland Movement is a collective-led, people-driven civil liberation movement committed to restoring sovereignty to the people of Eswatini.
We are intentionally not a registered NGO. FSM is a movement — rooted in popular participation and grounded in the belief that liberation cannot be outsourced. It must be built by the people themselves.
FSM operates as a connector, educator, mobiliser, and international advocate — supporting autonomous initiatives rather than centralising control.
Our Story
FSM honours these lives by continuing the struggle for justice, accountability, and freedom
Before 2021
Roots in community organising FSM's founding activists had long been involved in conscientising and organising communities across Eswatini before the 2021 uprisings
June 2021
The popular uprisings A wave of popular protests erupted across Eswatini. The regime's brutal response — including the massacre of 96 people on 29 June 2021 — marked a turning point in the country's history.
2022–2023
Targeted killings and continued repression The targeted killings of Muzi Mmema and human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko deepened the movement's resolve to pursue justice and accountability.
Today
FSM continues the struggle FSM honours those lives by continuing the struggle for justice, accountability, and freedom — inside Eswatini and across the global diaspora.
Core values
What guides everything we do
Democracy
Power must rest with the people through free, fair, and inclusive political participation.
Popular sovereignty
The people of Eswatini are the sole legitimate source of political authority.
Non-violence
Our struggle is grounded in legitimacy, mass participation, and moral authority.
Justice
Accountability for human rights abuses and structural injustices committed against Swazis.
Solidarity
Uniting Swazis at home and abroad with regional and international democratic allies.
Freedom of expression
Every Swazi has the right to speak, organise, and be heard without fear of repression.
Organisation
How FSM is structured
FSM is a collective-led movement rather than a leader-centric organisation. For security reasons, only leaders in the diaspora are publicly named. Leadership within FSM is understood as service, coordination, and responsibility — not command.
FSM operates and engages at three levels:
Molly Dlamini
Founder
Molly Dlamini is a political activist advocating for democracy, human rights, and popular sovereignty in Eswatini (Swaziland).
She is the Founder of the Free Swaziland Movement (FSM), a civil liberation movement working both inside Eswatini and across the diaspora to mobilise society toward democratic change through non-violent means.
In May 2023, Molly organised and led five demonstrations and petitions in London against King Mswati III and the monarchy, including protests outside the Savoy Hotel, where the King and Queen Sibonelo Mgomezulu were staying during an official visit.
In 2025, she co-organised the delivery of a Swazi people’s petition to 10 Downing Street alongside SWALIMO President Mduduzi Simelane, who is currently living in exile in the United Kingdom.
Molly has also engaged international policymakers directly. In Washington, D.C., she organised meetings with representatives in the office of U.S. Senator Tim Sco
